Detergent-based products, such as Blephadex products applied to the lids and lashes help to remove accumulated debris and excessive oils from the eyelid margins. Also, these products diminish bacterial reservoirs, combating the overgrowth of flora that incites and perpetuates staphylococcal blepharitis. Eyelid scrubs work by removing bacteria, pollen, and oily debris that's accumulated at the root of the eyelashes. This reduces irritation and inflammation. Eyelid scrubs with certain ingredients, such as tea tree oil, also help kill eyelash mites.
